Observation of a detail of this painting in near infrared (700 - 950 nm) reveals a partially overpainted thumb and index finger of the hand (top picture). Also note the hatched style of the underdrawing.
Performing imaging further into the infrared (between 950 and 1150 nm) reveals additional features in the underdrawing, such as an ornamental leaf design on the cushion and a change in the shape of the sleeve (bottom picture).
A complete IR-assembly of this painting is shown beneath. Note the abundant parallel hatching in the underdrawing, the change in direction which has been made in the perspective lines and the frame lines in the book.
