Megapixel multispectral imaging camera

The ARTIST is a multispectral digital imaging camera developed by Art Innovation for the inspection of art works. The camera can for instance be used to study the underdrawings or to visualize the composition and condition of paintings. The camera can aid in the study of the applied artistic techniques, the analysis of colour and pigments or the revelation of previous restorations. Due to the portable design and flexible setup, the camera can be used for many more applications.

The ARTIST has been developed exclusively for the art conservation field. Many of the up-to-date imaging techniques used by conservators for scientific analysis of artworks, such as infrared reflection, false colour infrared, colourimetry, fluorescence and ultraviolet reflection, are integrated into one portable device with advanced documentation and processing capabilities.

Combining megapixel resolution imaging and machine-vision techniques, the ARTIST is the state of the art in the non-destructive analysis and documentation of artworks, providing substantial benefits over conventional imaging systems. The digital images are stored on a connected laptop and have a very high quality. By stitching different images together, object images of tenths of megapixels can be realized.

The robust carrying case conforms to standard airline hand luggage dimensions. The system is operational within minutes by simply inserting the data cable and power cable into the camera and computer. The software is has built-in features such as digital zoom and the possibility to display up to four images simultanuously to help the user compare images recorded in the various imaging modes.
